Detail, Bureau de Poste, Aix

According to Wikipedia, forgive me Isa if I get this wrong, this was called The Corn Exchange once. The statuary represents all that nature gives to Provence. There is wheat and sun and grapes and livestock. The two human figures are the two great rivers that feed Provence, The Rhone, the male figure and The Durance, the female figure. She is dangling her leg because she, The Durance, is fickle with her favors from year to year.
