View from The Rock

The road going across the picture is the bottom part of our walk as viewed from Le Rocher, a huge rock formation that forms one end of the town. Saignon means signal and it was from this rock that sentinels watched for invaders and warned the populace.

The fields here are a microcosm of the area. On the left are fields of lavender that are the region's trademark. The trees are a grove of cherries, an important Spring crop. And to the right is a vineyard of red grapes, my guess being grenache.
