Before we head off to sunny Provence, a look at one of my favorite subjects.

New Years Day in the garden. Monsteras

I have bought a used Olympus PEN-F digital camera to shoot my Holga pictures. The reason for this fairly old micro 4/3 body is because they have a black and white filter that is an almost perfect mimic of the TRI-X 120 that I used to use in my film Holgas. It's a nifty little camera anyway with a retro look before retro was cool. This is my first try with it and my first picture of 2024. I love it.

To Dave at Terk Oncology

Hi Dave. If you still look at this blog I have some news. Due to you, I bought a GR3x to take France. I am blown away by the quality of the files. I have needed, for years, a small camera to carry when I don't want a big one around my neck.

Anyaway, we are about to head out to France and will spend most of the time in our village and the area around it, but, when we go to Paris the Ricoh will be a joy to have. I will be posting more regularly over there, So, be on the lookout.

This is with the Ricoh, some Monstera leaves in the Intracoastal, and really printed well too. Keep shooting and zapping.

Monstera, garden, 26f

We had a hard frost here last night. Just hit 33 degrees at noon. The Monstera philodendron won'y get killed but it does bow down and lose leaves.

Squirrel art with Monstera.

It is not untrue that squirrels will do anything to get your attention, if they feel safe. I was pruning Monsteras all last week, under a Live oak by the water. I noticed some fine sawdust falling on me. I looked up and there were a couple of squirrels chewing on acorns, directly above me. Of course, I yelled at them and they kept eating. I moved to another Monstera, under a hickory, and pruned there. Soon there was sawdust in the air again.  Now there were piles of leaves everywhere, but there was only sawdust on the two piles I had worked. on that day. Even when I feed the little beggars whole peanuts, they run up a tree and open them right over my head. No wonder they drive dogs crazy.

Pruning day.

There are four large Philodendron Monstera growing at the base of a Live oak near the water. I haven't paid them much attention and they took over. So today I went pruning. I filled our wheelbarrow 4 times with leaves. About one out of five stems has been hollowed our by very aggressive nasty little ants. After a few bites I learned to spot an affected branch and send the ants for a swim in the Intracoastal. I am ahead for a change, but in two months they will be sneaking back. A garden is never finished.
