Mother and child, La Platane, Apt

We were having lunch at one of our favorite restaurants in Apt, La Platane (always order the fish), and this young family came in to eat. The mother was feeding her daughter and teaching her to hold a spoon.

La Platane, Apt for lunch

La Platane, in Apt is one of our favorite lunch spots. The setting is superb. You are in the middle of Apt and never know it. This is a second story courtyard shaded by a huge mulberry and smaller trees. The whole place is run by a family of three, mother and daughter are the front of the house and the father, a genius with seafood, cooks.

Thanks to a certain Australian smart-aleck the mother greets me as Big Jim when we come in. Such a nice family and such good food. The smoked salmon salad is to die for. I would never think of putting an egg with smoked salmon.....try it! Highly recommended.

At La Platane, Apt

A nice lunch after a hot market, chasing the two Jane's from stall to stall.

La Platane, Apt

La Platane, in Apt is one of our favorite lunch spots. There is a graveled deck under a huge mulberry tree and the food is superb. If you go there always favor the fish dishes because the chef just nails seafood. Our after dinner digestif was ruined by this little drunk.

Quail and potatoes, La Platane, Apt

La Platane is a recent find, thanks to Ian and Jane, our Australian friends. It is off on a side street in Apt and, during warm weather, has a completely shaded, by trees, little courtyard with about ten tables. It is cool on the hottest days and pleasantly balmy on average days. On top of this, the food is fabulous. This day I had perfectly cooked quail with a brilliant gravy (sorry Ian but I know that the fish was good too). I don't think enough is said about the Provencal way with potatoes. The Germans and the Irish seem to have the patent on potato consumption. Whether they are baked or mashed or fried (French fries are just pommes frites or fried potatoes in Provence.) they are always more than a background. These were wonderful.
