Entrance to the Ochre mines, Gargas
These openings were about 20 feet tall. We were asked not to take pictures in the mines, so I put my camera away. It was a wonderful tour, with a bi-lingual guide who filled me in from time to time. The miners slept down in the mines and grew mushrooms in side tunnels to make a few francs on the side. There were many kilometers of tunnels, only a few of which were open and lit.
