We are in Saignon, in Provence, for the thirteenth time in thirteen years. This is our journal and photo album. I have now added posts from our home in North Florida. New bed, Garden
I bought a new raised bed last week and filled it last weekend. It is called a Big Bag Bed and they come in many sizes. They are made of a dense yet porous cloth. I filled this one with good potting soil and put in a cherry tomato plant, a new chili pepper called Super Chili and a couple of peonies from Costco. I am skeptical about the peonies. I don't know if we get enough chill hours to let them rest. Also, our native nematodes are death on almost all bulbs. I am hoping that a raised bed will hinder their progress long enough to get some flowers.

Les Lantins, for Carol and Harvey
This house, below the village, is the first house we rented in Saignon. We came over with Harvey and Carol Green. It was a nice house. Still shaded by that tree even in October. It was the first rental that had an internet connection. I remember that it was World Series time and the Red Sox (A bunch of godless communists, somehow favored by the Greens.) were in it for the first time in decades. One morning, at 4:00, I was awake and heard Harvey pad into the room down the stairs from us to get the score. All I heard was a very quiet "Yesssssss!" and he padded off to bed. A great memory.

Sand, Ponte Vedra Beach
We had a week of gentle waves which end up leaving lovely patterns on the sand. All the different colors separate and the last wave leaves a rim that is incredibly delicate.

Truck decal, MSD
I cannot figure out what this means. Our flag, buried in wood shavings, with three deer skulls lying atop it. Is it patriotic? Anti-American? Pro hunting? Why twice?

The mad pruner of Rue du Bourget
We have an oleander in front of our little house that seems to grow all year round. Janie got onto our wall and had at the lower branches. We cleared a bunch of the upper ones a bit later.

Shadows, Apt
I went down to Apt on a crystal clear day this January. The shadows were like living things. I had my Holga lens on an Olympus PEN-F body, a perfect pairing for the day and the light.
